The City of Stories

Georgie Matthews is a freelance marketing consultant and content creator.
Georgie has 6 years’ experience working with small, passionate teams. Working with smaller businesses has naturally led Georgie to adopting a wide range of skills to and a budget-friendly approach to counteract the resources deficit. From user web design and user research to content creation and strategist, Georgie’s done everything.
Graphic design, web design, copywriting, email marketing, PPC ads, customer engagement, user research, strategist…
Georgie has experience in PPC marketing and paid ads, but Georgie prefers to embrace person-led marketing that generates real customer engagement through organic methods and direct communication with customers. (And this is the most cost-effective way too.)
Georgie is available for one-off projects and long-term freelance contracts with small businesses and self-employed individuals.
My Experience
I have 6 years experience of marketing experiencing. My past freelance clients have included small businesses, freelance creatives, charities, theatre companies and authors. Previous permanent roles include:
- Marketing & Content Developer for Rhino Greenhouses – a highly successful Norfolk-based manufacturer in the gardening sector. While at Rhino, I worked closely with local agencies: SEO specialists, Fountain Partnership in Norwich and creative agency, Spring in Southwold.
- Marketing & Sales Lead for Tales Toolkit – an education supplier focusing on early childhood education using the UK curriculum with an international customer base. The product has a powerful message about the power of storytelling skills for children, promoting self-advocacy, language development and teamwork.
My Approach
Although I am bursting with ideas of my own, I love the creative potential of a team environment. Collaboration is the best way forward in any creative endeavour and so I encourage regular consultations with all my clients.
I pride myself on my curiosity and empathy and believe that marketing should be about putting the human experience at the forefront. That means striving for authentic engagement with quality content, not just box-ticking for Google’s sake.
I produce digital content remotely from my base in Norwich, but will occasionally travel to work with clients further afield in East Anglia and around the UK.

My Ideals
I believe in socially responsible work practices, with a focus on inclusivity and environmental awareness. I seek to work with individuals and businesses that align with these ideals.
How I Work
1. Consultation
I need to learn about you and your business before I can help your business. For small projects, we might only need a quick chat and the filling out of a briefing template. For larger projects, a more in-depth conversation will precede the commencement of any work we decide to undertake together.2. Quoting
A quote will always be unique to the project and will include a projected completion date for the work. Dependent on scope of the project, a deposit will also be taken at this point.3. Independent Work
Once I feel confident that the assigned task has been well explored, I will start working independently to produce a first draft.4. Review Cycle
Once a first draft has been completed, we then enter a review cycle. Feedback is provided, implemented and returned on a cycle until you are happy with the result.5. Final Payment
An invoice will be sent out and payment for services is kindly requested within 2 weeks of receipt.
A bit more about me
I am a creative. I have worked as a bookseller, book reviewer, proofreader, editor, content creator, campaigner, copywriter, actor, social media manager and organic marketing developer.
I continue to take on professional acting work and particularly enjoy musicals and pantomimes – any opportunity to get silly.
I am a campaigner for Image-Based Sexual Abuse (IBSA). I create content to raise awareness and work alongside a variety of charitable organisations to make legislative change.
In my spare time (which comes rarely) I like to keep my mind and hands busy with other creative hobbies – painting, gardening, upcycling… I took up knitting during lockdown and have been a fountain of knitted presents to friends and family ever since.
I live in my beloved city of Norwich. During my time spent at UEA, I fell in love with Norwich. It is a city filled with creative activity, character and history. I decided to make Norwich my home a few years after graduating and now live and work remotely with a view of Norwich cathedral from my window.
Passionate curiosity is my strength.
